| I can see the coupler springs pretty easily from above. I cranked the engine through with a wrench to look at it from all angles. I did not see any debris at the bottom of the bellhousing. Finally, my screwdriver noise locator seemed to confirm that all was pretty quiet back there. I did determine that the "knock" is at valve speed, that is, at one half the engine rpm. This at first encouraged me, but then again, it also correlates to a power stroke frequency. I have not taken the oil filter apart, but I have looked for metal in the oil and don't see any. I can try disecting the filter next time I'm down there.
I've been wondering about the the timing chain. Anyone ever heard of one of these failing noisily?
