The greatest load on a rod is at crossover between exhaust and intake stroke..tremendous tension load on the rod and bolts. Of course this also happens at 1/2 crank speed. How about distributor/oil pump drive? Those bottom ends are pretty bulletproof. You could have broken piston skirt, slipped piston pin, even bent connecting rod. Keep us posted.
