| I am definitely not doing this project for grins, because where I come from boats are a dime a dozen. Its a family tradition, in addition to being an extremely rare piece of marine history.
Anyway, I got some special oil additive and instructions from my engine builder.
To break the cam in, run it for 10 mins at varying speeds no higher than 1500 RPM. Shut it off and let it cool completely (like a few hours). Then, start it up again, and let it cool down.
Then to break the bearings in, run it for an hour at varying speeds just not hard. This can be done with the boat in the water so I'll probably take it for a cruise at night or something.. Then, once I see that the rings have seated I will change the oil.. Seems pretty simple.
im going to have a master marine mechanic come over and help me do all the final checks to make sure everything is good before I launch it.
I will definitely have a TON of photos and video once its up and going.. I am going to have my grandpa take it on the maiden voyage, and he will probably use the boat, he built a special step that helps him get in and out. |
