'64 Lincoln Continental with a '66 MEL 462

Feel free to introduce yourself. No obligation off course, but a nice way to get known to you a little. It's allways good to know your first name. Jeff or John sounds better than, "hey linc58prm2_1......"

'64 Lincoln Continental with a '66 MEL 462

Post by reijerlincoln » Mon 29. Dec 2008, 06:47

My name is Reijer, I'm from the Netherlands. My 1964 Continental is powered by a brand spanking new 1966 MEL 462. It's a nice cruiser. I use it during dry (and preferably sunny) weekends in the spring and summer. The car was imported from Fresno in early 2006. As a novice classic car mechanic I've since worked on it quite a bit.

Great pics Reijer,
in 1991 I was in the Merced /Fresno area too. What a beautiful car. Did you know that my 62 T-Bird shares the same windshield? They are exchangeable.
I had this matchbox model car when I was 8 years old. We all were still under the influence of the assasination of J.F. His name never disappeared from mind, neither did this all time classic car. It's such an aristocratic car. Very understatement yet loaded and with timeless elegance.
Like the Jaguar MK2 this car is one of my all times favourites. Congrats to you all your passengers. I guess it's a non ice cream and chips area. ;)
Best regards

Thanks Theo. Most people associate this model with JFK. Even Dutch people do so which is surprising as it's a relatively unknown model here. On the front wind shield; I'm 99% sure it's unique to the '64 and '65 Continental. If it was interchangeable with the bullet nosed Birds I'm certain it would be known on thelincolnforum.net (they're scarce as hell. Prices have been going up to and over $600). I too like the Jaguar MkII and '61-'63 T-Birds. In my (distant) future I see a '51-'53 Hudson Hornet coup. If I ever make it big perhaps even a thirties Packard. Drool.

So how about showing us photos of your '62 T-bird? I'm guessing you've done something to that motor...

You're right; no eating in the car. I will however tolerate coffee in Styrofoam cups with a lid on (I'm not that anal).

Well, as for the T-Bird photos I'd like to keep them out from the MEL Forum. If I start posting off pic, everybody will do it and this place will become exhausting to wade through for MEL visitors. I will post them pics maybe as an external link from my sig or so. In the past I didn't have the time to stuff it into a gallery. Will do when time allows.
I'm still fiddeling with this forum's software which is new to me. It's pretty time consuming, but this is the time to do it. I will have very short time in the next future so I try to implement all the important basic fatures now. At the same time I try to give this forum a face that is different from what the standart package is offering. However designwise a forum package is extremely limited to layout and such. But that's an other story.

Is your interior mild rosee as it appears on my monitor? Vinyl trim is easy on kids and food but a hell of fire under the seat of your pants in summer. My trim is maroon vinyl w/o a working ac. It gets pretty hot with the double exhaust tubes running through the tunnel. It's great in winter ;)

Ah, I thought the bullet nosed Birds were equipped with a MEL motor. But you're right about setting strict rules about the purpose of this forum. The forum is looking good already. Keep up the good work. My interior is more beige than rose but the rose comes out in certain lights (or as in this photo when the car is parked next to a red brick wall).

Theo, I meant the '61-'63 T-Birds. I thought bullet nosed Birds was their nickname in the same way that '61-'65 Continental enthusiasts call their cars 'slabside'.

Here's a short super8 film of my '64 Continental driving by.

I uploaded another one showing my friend Peter and his '63 too. It's kinda dorky (intentionally).

I certainly do love old crap. I mean stuff. I mean objects. Beat up guitars etc.

This hot-rod manifesto made me go out and buy an old super8 camera:
