My 62 Lincoln Continental
Thanks for the kind welcome in the "Introduce Yourself" forum, and for pointing me in the right direction. I've done a little bit to the car so far, weather and space permitting, and can't wait to get her into a garage so I can really dive in. So far I've replaced the right wing window, bought new wheels and tires with the original 62 hubcaps, bought a new grille which I have yet to install, and will be putting in a new starter as soon as the rain goes away.
Here goes nothin! Check out the pics and let me know what you think. I'm sure I'll have many questions along the way...

Left a deposit for them to hold the car, and came back to pick up the next day, May 3rd, 2011. Here are a few picks I shot on the way to her new home...

Re: My 62 Lincoln Continental
Found some original wheels and hubcaps with nice tires from a collector on Craigslist for $100, and he threw in a right wing window for $25. This was a great find considering I found a set of 4 hubcaps on Ebay for $225. Have to admit they look pretty good on the Lincoln, although I'd like to get a set of 22's with some wide whitewalls when funds permit...

After trying to start her up on the first day, we eventually had to pull the starter to find that a pin was loose. Replaced the starter and put it in today. Not starting yet, but the motors turning. Next step, we'll check to see if the coil is sending power to the plugs. Bare with me, I'm learning all of this as I go, and it's good to spend some time with my dad...
Damn... that was a pain in the ass...

Re: My 62 Lincoln Continental
So I call the tow yard today where I bought the car, and found out they had to bypass the fuel tank to get gas to the carburetor. Apparrently there's a block in the fuel line somewhere. Make a long story short, I cut a hose and connected it from a gas can to the electronic fuel pump, powered the pump direct from the battery, and noticed gas flooding into the carb. I pulled the hose from the gas can, pumped the gas a few to let the gas settle in. Worried about the gas overflow on top of the motor, I was hesitant to try firing it up, but figured since I had gone that far I had to try it.
So I turn the key, and after a few seconds IT FIRED UP AND SOUNDED GREAT! Just to make sure I wasn't dreaming, I turned it off, and turned the key again, and to my suprise, it fired up in under a second. This is my first time doing this, so you can imagine my excitement. My wife is gone, so I had my boys in the backseat playing with toys. My 5 year old was excited too. What a great feeling, only wish I had it on video.
I'll be posting more soon. Hopefully I'll be able to get some video to post for your thoughts. Can't believe I got this car for $2000. Thanks for such a great forum, I've already learned a lot just reading over other people's posts...

Re: My 62 Lincoln Continental
So today I attempted to take the carb off until I realized the coolant was also connected to the carb. With no way to clamp the coolant hoses, I reconnected the carb and gave her a start to see if she'd idle on her own.
I had to manually power the fuel pump to keep a steady flow of fuel without it leaking, which you might be able to see in the video. If you look closely, you might also see the leak on the top of the float bowl. For now I'm hoping a regulator will let me drive it until I can replace the carb. I also found there's no pressure on the breaks, so I'll bleed them ASAP to get her goin. Let me know your thoughts on the video...
