Response to 454 valve/lifter noise. Need solution. Mobil One ??? |
| Believe it or not, the Marvel Mystery Oil is a pretty good fix for this if ("if") it is a sticking lifter. If it is a mechanical issue like a valve setting that is too wide, then the MMO won't do anything. Try to isolate which cyllinder is making the noise. Use a long handle screwdriver to the ear like a stethascope, stay AWAY from the ignition wires. Once you find out which cylinder it is, you can start the motor with the valve cover off, run it for a few fleeting moments, and insert a feeler gauge, see what is happening, it might tell you something. The rocker assy might need attention too, never know.
I would think the MMO would work far better than going to a Mobil-1, for instance.
Good luck,
Tom
