Response to Leaking hatches. |
| Not sure about the engine hatches, but the rear hatches are reinforced with an encapsulated wood inlay. Over time if (when?) the wood eventually gets exposed to water, it will swell and cause a deformation on the hatch cover. Mine are doing this now. The relief is undoubtedly to take a Skil Saw and set the blade about 1/2" and run a couple of cuts the length of the wood support, open it up and remove the wood piece. What you put back is up for grabs. Filling it with longitudinal pieces of fiberglass and resin would probably be very strong and it would remain static.
Someday when I have a little spare time, I'll probably do this job, because mine are starting to deform and I suspect it will only get worse. The wood that is in place and not swelling, could be drilled and filled with penetrating epoxy.
We'll see how it goes.
