Guys, Hi hear the case for rebuilding the engines, but I need to bare the following in mind.
Gas prices in the european atlantic islands is more than the UK. We are at $2.12 - $2.16 a litre in the UK at the moment (Diesel is about 6-8 cents more!) A repower may cost a whole heap of money short term, but long term I would like to THINK it is in my favour! What would be handy is to know what GPH those gas engines would run at. If you think that most of boats life would be spent gamefishing - ie trolling around at 7 - 9 knots, this would give me an idea of who much the fuel bill is going to be for a days fishing. Also I need to think of the logistics of an overhaul in the islands? I could end up keeping air frieght busy if something pops!
