Readers and especially Mark and Paul:
Here is proof of the value of the Forum for me. I will modify the rig taking into account the possible flaws you critiqued. That is a long span. I may be able to add a column from the beam down to the stringer in the engine room. Putting 3/4 inch plywood down outside between the pilot house and toe rail could offer enough weight spreading effects, but you are right, why chance it. The boat is in the drink, so I can't transfer the weight to the hard.
On the other hand, Marks comments got me to thinking that instead of a A-frame setting on the deck, (my deck is not substantial enough for the weight), there may be enough room to set an A-frame rig on the stringers below the engine. This A-frame would solve two directions of tipping over in case of a rouge wave. There are other obvious plusses. I could fit a piece of plywood under it and a furniture roller so that it could be down and rolled out. Yes, we are taking off what cast iron we can, as well as the Paragon transmissions.
Simple is best,
