The shocking Truth about shocks.
In order to save money why not investigate how to select the right shock for you.
You don’t even need a part number…..
First ....
Compressed and extended lengths are taken from the center of the loops and /or from the shoulders on shocks with a stem fitting. You then can find the compressed and extended lengths.
Next determine the type of end:
Threaded stem / stud mount
Stud plate (a plate with 2 studs)
Loop mount
Bushing and Sleeve
Cross pin mount
Cantilever Pin mount
Compressed--------Extended-------Travel--------Dust shield--------Top Mount--------Bottom Mount----------Part #
9.750---------------14.750-----------5.00-----------yes-----------------Loop-------------------Loop---------------34839 front
13.750--------------22.620-----------8.875----------yes-----------------stud-------------------Loop----------------34901 rear
You will need to make some modifications for your application ……. Note the massive size of the new shocks!!
Rear shock Pre-install. I cut off the old mounting bolts and used aircraft grade shoulder bolts.
Notice the spacer made from black gas pipe. Did I mention self locking nuts.......
Front shock Pre install. I ground down the bottom mounting pin to slide through the shock loop as well as pressing in the old bushing at the top for additional bolt clearance.
Not shown: I ground away some of the dust cover so it would fit in the upper frame mount.
Armed with these part numbers you can now cross reference to your preferred brand and price range.
No need to pay inflated prices for mediocre parts.
Thanks in part to the engineering Dept at Monroe ……. Made in USA!!
