Many of us have power windows, more specifically Lincolns.I just want to give you a quick overview of how to get your windows working again.
90 % of the time when a window will not operate it is the fault of the switch caused by corrosion and debris that has fallen into the mechanism.
Here is an overview of switch repair on a 1959 Lincoln.
After removal of the switch panel each switch will need to be carefully removed.
On the front and back of each switch there is a tiny hole in the chrome casting.
Using a stiff wire coat hanger carefully push the locking tabs in to release the switch. Some WD-40 will help.
Bend a 90 at one end and use this end to get at the inboard lock tabs.
There are two locking tabs per switch.
There is a tiny finger that locks into the hole that retains the switch assembly.
Now remove the center screw holding everything together.
Using a Dremel and a cone brass brush clean out the switch cavity.
Thoroughly clean all the parts. I used a brass brush tooth brush and Isopropyl Alcohol. Notice the deteriorated rubber that protected the switch at one time. More on that later.
The main window power switch can be cleaned as well.
After this procedure my windows were working flawlessly.

This is the newer style switch.
Like on the previous switch they are held in by small clips. Push in the tab and pull up to remove. Its not an easy task.
Once the switch assembly is out you can carefully disassemble it.

Remove the "E" clip.

Carefully drive out the retaining pin. The switch is only plastic so be extra careful.

Remove the spring and the pivot.

Using some emery cloth and contact cleaner carefully clean the contacts.
You should be good to go.

In addition to cleaning these switches. They can be protected by placing rubber nitrile finger cots over each switch for protection. Punch a round hole in the tip so it does not tear.
