Acceleration Flat Spot
Hi All, Just a carb question - my 58 Mercury with 430ci engine and stock 4BBL carb has a flat spot on accelerating from idle. I know this is a classic faulty accelerator pump symptom, however, I checked the accelerator pump diaphragm and it seems to be intact. When watching down the throat of the ca...

Re: Engine Running Problems
OK back again. I finally found the problem. Only a few months back I did an igntion overhaul - replaced plugs, leads, distributor cap, rotor, points and capacitor. Apparently the new capacitor I bought was not of good quality and after only a few months of operation it developed a fault where once t...

Re: Engine Running Problems
Hi All,
Thanks so much for your advice. I'll work through all of these suggestions and see how things go.
To answer one question, yes it's separate coil resistor set-up.
Thanks so much
John

Engine Running Problems
Hi All, A couple of trips ago I noticed my 430 occasionally faltering for a split second while driving. It felt like the ignition was momentarily disconnected then reconnected. Just this weekend it got worse to the point where it was happening continuously to the point where the engine stalled and w...

Re: Engine Number Location
Hi All, Thanks for the replies. I finally lowered the generator and dug through the crud to find the numbers on my engine. I'm a little confused because they are cast numbers. Did MEL really change the mould to number each engine individually ? I've attached a pic of the numbers. It reads like: ?575...

WTB: 430ci heat riser (over manifold)
Hi - am not sure what the correct MEL name is, but am looking for what I would call the heat riser that provides heated air to the carburettor when engine cold, and outside air as the engine warms up.
In Australia but happy to pay for it and postage.
