Yes, I have tried several different carbs on the Fairmont, amongst them 800 & 850 double pumpers, a 950 3 barrel, a 950 HP series and a 1050 Dominator (with an adapter). The 950 HP matched my 3310-1 780 Holley vac sec. MPH numbers at the time, but the little vac carb is still the quickest, and has since gone faster mph wise as well. John Calvert , the Leblancs and others with 9 second 428CJ Super Stock cars also seem to "get by" with the smallish Vac sec Holley too.
Years ago I did try a borrowed TunnelWedge with 2 660 Holleys, like Dales setup, it did did pickup 1 1/2 tenths and 2 MPH over my 1x4 at the time, with the automatic. I would like to try a TW again in the future. (Maybe when I`m visiting Dale tonight, his might dissappear!!!)
