Dawn dishwash soap and water will remove wax. There are a lot of opinions as to the best wax. Collonite, Meguiars, 3M come to mind. Do a search on "the hull truth" or iboat and you can read about it for days, HA

Ammonia works great!

December 17 2008, 4:24 AM

I use ammonia added to any soapy water to take of the old wax. Works great. I also soak my buffing pads in a bucket of ammonia and then run 'em through the washing machine/dryer. They come out like new.

I tried a different miracle product this summer that actually worked very, very well. It is called "Buff Magic". It reminds me alot of another product I like, a metal polish called "Flitz". It really did a good job of polishing up the gel coat without removing material. I them followed up with "Meguires Flagship Wax". I have to admit that I haven't waxed for 3or 4 years. Even after the neglect she shinned up pretty good for an old broad!

This is the photo I have as my desktop right now. It reminds me of the huge amount of work accomplished last spring and summer. New varnished teak toe rails, fresh chrome and shinny gel coat. Very pleasing to the eye. The work this spring will be pleasing to ear, hopefully. happy.gif

Yours Truly, Chris Wade
