hope everyone is enjoying their summer. i see in the archives the edelbrock 1409 is supposed to be a good swap for a carter afb on the 427. has anyone actually done this?
if so, how is it working out?
did it work out of the box or was there some additional tuning the carb needed? ie: different jets
i see there is a ford linkage adapter available. did the stock linkage on the carb work or did you require the adapter?
any other advise you could share?

Hi Jim,

There are a few minor mods that need to be done, but it's basically a bolt in operation. Edelbrock sells a banjo fitting for a USCG rated hose that makes it easier to adapt the fuel line to the carb. Naturally, the finest marine fittings, etc., all in conformance with USCG regs must be used.

I have to run right now, but later I'll post some addl info on how this swap works on a 427.

I am presently running one on a smaller motor (327F) and the more I run it the more I like it. There are some addl precautions I'd take to be sure you keep those new carbs free of debris and running well, which I'll get into later, hopefully this eve.

Here are some threads that offer some good info on the #1409 Edelbrock marine 600 cfm carb.

My own experience on a 327F small block. At first I thought the 600 was way too much carb for a 327, and it is, but the darn thing runs well and I have no complaints after several runs now. The 600 is actually a little on the conservative size for a 427, and since the original 427 Carter was a 625, you really are NOT missing anything by going to a 600. Both have plenty of fuel capacity for the 425 cubic inches in that 427 motor.
