Cost of fuel

We were lucky enough to take "Seaspray" for a run around the bays on Saturday, All was fine, I took some picks but we don't have internet down at the boat any more, so I will up load when I am next home.

Last year we fuelled up with 340 litres of diesel at the cost of £160 english sterling, this time 330 litres at the cost of £267, I can't believe the rise in cost and in Jersey marine fuel does not include any tax.

How does this price compare with American price?

Best regards
Heidi

A lot of math for me...

Well, one pound sterling = $1.97 U.S, and ther are 3.785 litres in a U.S. Gallon, so... with diesel at about $4.75/U.S gallon here and 330 litres is about 87 gallons... so you're paying $9.24/gallon?? Huh?? Can that be right?? No...

Math

Actualy it should be about $6.04 per gallon by my calculations which were 330 divided by 3.785 = 87 gallons of fuel now she paid 267 sterling so 267 divided by 87 = 3.068 per gallon sterling x 1.97 to convert to us dollars = 6.04 per gallon I think I got that right. By comparison we were at $4.21 per gallon for 89 octane last time I looked at the marina.

Hi Heidi !

Always good hearing from you, hope all is well with you, Paul, and your extended families.

Riding a Harley is going to me more economical than running a Chris Craft, I'm afraid. Back in March I took on a hundred gallons of fuel at $4.30 per gal. Now the price is up to $4.60 for gasoline.

Diesel is always higher for some reason, not sure why.

Our trips will be shorter this season, but we'll save up for a big run sometime in the year. A 427 motor is capable of burning 50 gallons per hour at wide open throttle. Nobody in their right mind would run one an hour at max rpm, but it is an indication of the power, speed, and ability to burn fuel.

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Our trips this year will be shorter and fewer but we have two weeks holiday in July and plan to visit the other islands and the French coast, should be fun.

All the very best to you and yours.

Regards
Heidi
