Battery charger recommendation

I am tired of buying batteries and hauling them to and from my boat. I keep a charger handy due to the fact that we use a lot of 12v at the docks and we backcharge the batteries. This has not been working very well and I'm told the charger I'm using is the cause. Looking through the various marine catalogs, I see a lot of choices. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Jason Hoffman

Been there, done that

Jason,

I did the battery replacement thing too with an inferior charger. I eventually got a Xantex unit and it runs the batteries automatically through a program that keeps them in tip top shape. I can not recommend this unit too highly. The automotive units are okay for bumping up a battery now and then, but the Xantex unit is hooked to the batteries all the time. The entire time we are on shore power, the unit is computer controlled and monitoring the battery charge. Get one of these, you will not regret it.

Got one

I just purchased the same charger and will be installing it sometime this week hopefully. I still have the original 20 amp manual style charger. After 9 years I finally broke down and did what my original surveyor recommended....

You won't regret it, these are great

When we are hooked to shore power, and someone uses a 12V device, even a lamp in the forward cabin, the charger lights up and recognizes the drain in power. These things are great.
