Hey good job with the photos. You don't need to add the IMG tags, just copy and paste the "direct link" from Photobucket. The more I look at the 42, the more I realize there really wasn't ANY competition for this particular boat. Nowhere could you find anything approximating that pointed transom, or the topside style, aft deck open space, just an awesome design. Many have tried, none have really replicated, and that includes Hatteras.
Thanks Paul, much easier. And thanks for the comments, point well said. Heres some more recent photos and a few of the projects I've done recently. I'll dig up some of the older photos in the near future.
The second photo was shot from the crows nest of a 43 Hatteras
Hers a few of a custom solid teak plank corner couch / sleeper bed I built and then had upholstered as well as a matching table top.
Heres a few of the cabin stairs / step that I re did with teak and holly plywood and teak plank trim with mahogany stringers.
This pic partially shows the teak wet bar / helm seat that I built a few winters ago. I'll post some of the bar under construction after I dig up more photos.

"Bear Z Girl"
Thanks for the compliments! She's located in Michigan on Lk St. Clair / Anchor Bay. Its pretty stable in rough seas in fact the only time we have been turned back so far was on a trip from Port Huron North to Lexington Mi. I made the mistake of listening to a Canadian weather report stating 2 - 3's out of the North...well thats 2 - 3 METERS, not feet!! The boat could have handled it but the crew backed out, the ride back in following seas was interesting to....
Looks like they take they're boating seriously across the pond. Very nice 31 and it appears the Owners take pride in they're Commander and it reminded me I have to polish / repaint my bow Badge.
Thanks for the info!
Steve
I just explained the situation and tense discussions taking place between the Commander and Hatterus camps to some friends of mine over at the Pentagon and they said they would definitely jump in on the side of the Commanders. They said that Commanders with big dog 454s, or even the weeny 427 s, topped anything they had.

Well, finally we got you two to agree on something. Now we have a place to work from. The best way to keep a family together is to try to seperate them!
I love my old boat!
Jerry
Now as long as we don't start talking about who has a faster muscle car we should be just fine............
In response to "I love my old boat"
Hi, I'm Steve and I'm a boataholic....
Now we are talking! Hi, I'm Jerry and I'm a Boataholic, too! I have 15 boats now and it is not even 5:00 pm. At lunch, I went into the marina for parts and came out with an old 14 footer of a brand I never heard of but it is cute and it was free. With just some elbow grease, a little paint and new gas I know it will run. Maybe you and Cha Cha could come down and have a few beers while helping me put in the new electrics!
Vacinated but beyond help in DC,
Jerry
Certainly about as nice a boat as could be. However, in the background there appears to be a mid 60's 20' Thompson with an Eaton Outdrive. Looks just like my friends. What are the odds? There can't be many of these left.
Here's my friend's Thompson with Eaton outdrive and Buick Alum V8
Here's what I see in the background of the picture of the 42 Chris.
Upon closer examination, and searching my files for another view of this boat, I think it's a Chris Craft Sea Skiff (or perhaps a Lyman). I think it's a Skiff.
Note the straight windshield line. Also, what appears to be an outdrive on the first image, actually looks like a reflection in the glass or a sticker on the glass. There is no outdrive in the second photo.
Good eye, however!
A Thompson with an Eaton outdrive and aluminum Buick V8 is one RARE BIRD ! It would also be one rare treat to even see one, let alone get a ride in one! Your friend has a very cool vintage boat.
Well at least we didn't get a report that aleins from space were seen driving a vintage Thompson lapstrake woodie with an Eaton outdrive and aluminum Buick V8. Ha!
