Classic Yachting Magazine

March 4 2008, 10:46 AM

Thanks for the nice comments, John.

That is Curt Radford's old boat, presently owned by Joe Attura.

Bill Prince, Classic Yachting publisher, had a lot of Commander photos to pick from, and he picked this one to showcase the model. She sure is a beauty. Joe has one fine looking Commander, and these 38 hulls just look good from any angle.

For a direct link to Classic Yachting Magazine ( now listed permanently on our main header page here on the Chris Craft Commander Forum, Inc.,) check this link. Be sure to see the Commander article on page 98, of the March/April 2008 edition!

It was a pleasure working with Bill on this article. I've had the privilege of working with a variety of publishers over the years and Bill is a pro, he obviously knows boating inside and out, and communications were first class all the way and very efficient.

He was kind enough to give our 2008 Lake Erie Chris Craft Commander Rendezvous a nice plug on page 106, and I hope he and Elizabeth will be able to attend this event.

Anyone interested in going directly to the Rendezvous info page, click on the following link.

Class Act !

Paul,

That was a classy article in a classy publication, and a very enjoyable piece of work to read. I am running color copies for the boat, which I will casually make available any time we have company aboard.

Great article.....

I was starting to wonder what you did in your spare time when you weren't working on classic Volvos, Porsches and old tractors, building an addition to your house, chopping fire wood, restoring two classic Chris Crafts or working at your real job as an architect. Well, now I know, you are a pretty darn good writer too. You are a true renaissance man.

Article

March 4 2008, 2:25 PM

Thank you Glen, the article was written FOR our Commander Community, to help spread the word about our boats, and to give us all a little shot in the arm.

We're a pretty interesting group of people, able to deal with all kinds of mechanical and electrical issues and refinishing/refurbishing, and for our inconveniences, we're rewarded by the fun of classic Commander ownership (no matter what year or model, they're all special boats in their own right).

Just a few days ago (on Sunday afternoon) we buzzed Rock Harbor Marina, and a guy aboard a VERY expensive trawler yacht gave us the long appreciative look as we burbled on by, and when we were in ear shot, he yelled
"N.....I.....C.....E...............C.....H.....R.....I.....S".

All of us know how warm that makes us feel, constantly getting comments like that from admirers, after many of us put hundreds or thousands of hours of work into our boats. It's the part of classic Commander ownership you just can't get if you plunk down a quarter million bucks and buy something new that looks like a Clorox bottle with a clear coat

Are we all nuts? I don't know about you guys, but I sure am! I'm no renaissance man, I just have a real bad case of boatitis It's good to be among friends!

regards,

Paul

Paul:
The article is wonderful. The helm shot is inspiring. And I noticed the swim platform on the Knot in time, too.
Well done!

Excellent article !

WELL DONE ! 5-Stars !

I have owned a 38 for many years now, and I still enjoy seeing brochures and new articles like this, and I learned something too.

Commander owners all over the world are going to have copies of this publication on their boats for years. Their guests will be captivated in reading through this info, especially if they are aboard a Commander at the time!

I downloaded the entire mag on PDF and it was something like 87 megabytes, so plan on getting a cold drink and making a few phone calls while the ole 'puter works away. This is a seriously large file. Then you better hope your printer can handle that kind of a print load, so I would suggest sending a few pages at a time

Cheers !

Tom

Paul, Congratulations on a very fine article. That is some great coverage for the Commander series and for our forum too. It makes me more proud to own one of these old girls, and yes, I will most certainly have a copy of the article aboard my boat this season for all to read.
