Wow, that sounds like an awesome ride you guys had! Days like that can be some of the richest memories of all, but they can also turn bad quickly, and having been on both sides of the coin, I'm glad you all made it back safely.
The 35 with similar power and lighter weight, less wetted area, will run off and hide. It is tough to defy the laws of physics.
The 36, however, in rougher water, would reach a point where it would become the faster boat due to enhanced seakeeping and using the weight to wave flattening advantage.
