The temps hit 37 degrees today. Naturally, my thoughts turned to boating! Actually the boat project will probably go on hold for a few weeks around Christmas, so It seemed like a good day to dig into the gas tank situation. The outside of the tank looked pretty good if you can overlook some of the bilge muck. They really put the galvanizing on heavy in the old days. I was hopeful that the inside of the tank would look pretty good too.
Here it is sitting on the back after the 20 or so gallons of old gas were siphoned out.
A bit of degreaser and a lot of elbow grease later.
The inside of the tank was very clean. Very little rust. It's going to be reuseable.
Here's a look at the pickup.
Also did a little initial layout of the new floor supports
I discovered these square drive "Beaver Bite" 316 stainless screw at McMaster Carr.
These make easy work of screwing through hardwood. I love 'em.
Tomorrow, I will have to cover up my little project and put it away for the holidays, but today was fun for sure.
