Response to No holes drilled

Hi Randy,

Two things seem to happen too quickly with classic boats: People seem to want to crack a can of paint way too quickly, as I've actually seen solid mahogany PAINTED because someone watched one of those make-over shows and thought they needed to "upgrade" the interior of the boat; and secondly, people seem to want to drill holes EVERYWHERE !

I couldn't agree with your comments any more!

Those fasteners that attach to rails or chair legs are great, and should be used where-ever possible to AVOID drilling holes in fiberglass or wood. Sometimes we have to do it, but postings like yours help sensitize people to the fact that there may be another way to do something.

On my 20' Sea Skiff project boat, I refused to drill one new hole in that boat anywhere, unless it was absolutely required, and as a result my new GPS installation is on one of those adjustable leg mounts, and it works fine (and won't deface the original boat).

You can mount your expensive equipment like this where you want it, it's adjustable, and you can take it with you on the off season or overnight. Sure beats screwing it down through the gelcoat with stainless steel screws (when possible)

Regards,

Paul
