| Well I for one will welcome you to the "long range cruising on one motor" club! I did my run to The Huron Rendezvous last August on one momo. I suggest some practice maneuvers in close quarters before putting yourself in a predicament. It is far different then running a single screw boat. You will turn one way with ease, but the other will require you to throttle up and use a wide birth. Backing down can be much more intense. You simply cannot back down in one the two options (port/starboard). Even when you try the trick of going forward to point the transom in the right direction. You can't (or at least I couldn't) turn it hard enough in close quarters to compensate for the misdirection pull of the spinning screw. If your port motor is running then turning to starboard is easier, but backing to port is the nearly impossible challenge. Anything can be accomplished with a good crew and proper planning. I had Misters Pletcher and O'donnel help me spin a tight pivot of the end of a padded floater to get me out of my slip at Huron, then I had to power up and steer to port around a beautiful 47' Commander that was tied up in 1/3 of the channel. The main key to success is knowing how to use your POWER!
Hope this doesn't freak you out, and you have a good safe trip loafing up the St. Johns. Please take lots of pics to share with us!
