I don't think a new tank hurts the value of the boat at all. The old tank may well be good, and might even last longer than some of the new ones. Not sure what the life span of a plastic tank is, aluminum has it's own problems too. I would consider having it boiled out at a radiator shop, and be careful whatever you do will not eat the galvanized protection off the tank. Then, you have the option to coat it with tank restoration material many people use for antique cars, if there is any concern for corrosion inside the tank. The external part will be easy to see.
You could go as far as to drop it into a galvanizing liquid again, as there are shops around that do that sort of thing for steel fabricators.
