Response to 427 Idle, in gear

That is the sound that has caused thousands of people to reach for their wallet.

Awesome.............fun..............and a big part of classic ~~POWER~~ boating. What fun is power boating if you can't tell the motor is on?

Some of the newer boats, even the 38 Catalina that docks next to me, are so quiet they just don't have much character. I was inside my cabin one day, and looked outside to see that Catalina moving out of the slip right next to me and I didn't even hear the darn thing start up. It's of a different era, quiet, elegant, powerful, nice boat, but certainly NOT the classic Commander muscle of a big block Express.

As a kid fishing for bluegills on the docks at Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, I took note of the wood speedboats that were arriving and departing the docks, and I could see all those guys and gals having such a WONDERFUL time. The sounds were awesome too, as there isn't another sound quite like a Hercules flathead burbling in the water, in a kids life. Now giving every external appearance around the office as a grown man, I still remember and revere those sounds, and hearing a 427 burbling still gives me the same boost I got back in the early days standing there with a stringer of fish, watching the water gush out the copper tailpipes.

Regards,

Paul
