Response to Hurricane Gustav, anyone heard from Roy? Hanna on the way.

Hi all,

I’m baaaaack, safe and sound, there were a couple hundred thousand of us without power for a while, could have been a LOT worse. We dodged the bullet for the most part here in the Gulfport area but there are a lot of boats smashed up to the west of us. The winds were not all that bad here, but the storm surge was around 11 or 12 feet, and that worked to our disadvantage. There are boats sitting on highways here, and Long Beach, in particular, got hit harder than we did, and they are still recovering from being hammered by Katrina last year.

We got a bunch of trees down, a lot of missing roofing, flooding, a tornado or two, but not nearly as bad a day as Katrina.

I saw the note from JayB from Bay St. Louis, MS, and they got hammered with more surge and wind than we did, saw the note and it looks like you had 3 to 5' more surge and higher winds too. Glad to hear you got the boat back in the water Jay. Hope your insurance will help recover the financial hit you took. Not a good day for boating in the Gulf.

Roy
