Response to 1972 Commander prop size
One sure fire way to see if you do have undersized props, is if your motor readily revs to the 4000 mark. It also depends on what transmission you have. I don't think the 27 is using much of a gear reduction, but the 28 is wider and significantly heavier than the 27, check it and let us know what gear ratio you have. Also, I am surprised that boat doesn't have a small block Chevy, and I am wondering if you have a repower? If so, props may have been adapted to the motor and tranny.
