After sleeping on it and getting some darn good support from your equally crazy peers, making the choice to forge ahead is a good one. I have allready made up my mind, if I lose an engine or two, I'm still in the Commander business. I may even get a set of spare engines like Paul did, to have them "hold up one end of the shop". I figure doing that is the best way to assure I won't ever need them!
A pair of big blocks will transform the boat, and that's what it came with in the first place. I do not think they sold any Sport Fisherman models with the small block motors, since they were intended from the onset to be out in open water running relatively long runs.
I am one of those guys who has appreciated your threads immensely, and I am pulling for you. Time has a way of bringing conclusions to problems, and I am sure you will resolve this one. Keep on truckin.
