I've heard if ethanol fuel sits long term it absorbs water, and in the event it takes on too much, and if someone dumps in some drygas to absorb water (which actually CONTAINS water) you can get a stratification where the water will just settle to the bottom. Storage during winter months takes on all new meaning now if you have ethanol fuel.
Fortunately I still have access to real 93 octane marine gas at our fuel dock, and that is what I use every opportunity I can. I wish I could drive the car over there, ha.
Boat US has been all over the ethanol issue for a couple years now, they are well aware of the peril, and it has caused a LOT of expense to the boating ownership community. Here is a thread from our database, a lot of good stuff about what to expect from the alcohol mix.
