Response to Rarity, collectability, prices, fun and other nonsense ( an Editorial ) |
| Paul,
I really enjoy reading every one of your editorials because it makes me, for one, feel better about all the money and effort I put into my boating habit. My immediate family loves the boating lifestyle but I have many other family members who think I'm nuts for doing it. I have learned over the years that it is a fruitless waste of time to expect a person to love boating as much as I do so I stopped trying to justify it to anybody. I have so many memories stored in my mind of my wife and children riding, swimming, waterskiing, relaxing, overnighting, cooking, fishing, goofing off, stargazing, watching sunsets, etc... that if I make it to a rocking chair someday I'll have a lifetime of memories. You can't put a price on that. We have taken week long river trips, cruised the ICW, vacationed on the Gulf Coast on the boat, but most of our boating is "way down yonder on the Chattahoochee" starting at Lake Lanier,Ga. Your buddy and neighbor Alan Jackson grew up on the other side of Atlanta from me, by the way. I really don't have the money to buy these new $75000 skiboats and 300,000 pocket cruisers dealers are selling now so I get on the water with the excellent quality older boats and take pride in and enjoy the restoration process. That is part of the fun as long as you keep it reasonable. Some projects are so big that if you are not careful, they'll sap your willpower to finish. Been there, done that.
Anyway, sorry to ramble, I think everyone who reads this forum appreciates your efforts to lift up the interest and hopefully the value of these Chris Craft boats. THANK YOU!
Greg
