She's powered by a 350/Volvo-Penta 280 sterndrive.
As for the flashlight thing... the whole inside of V-berth is covered in the original white "monkey fur" (1978 baby, yeah). I don't think it'll do any good.
Also, I don't think the gel is too thin. It's been polished within an inch of it's life and has no thin spots (gray) like the cabin top on some Commanders I've seen.
