Jerry, from your description, you're using the word "generator" synonymously with "alternator", and you'll be using the latter. They function pretty much the same, so I get the idea. Personally if the cost is the same, I'd go for the higher output, because they can maintain a better (faster) charge when running slow with lots of electrical devices on, like lights, bilge pumps, fans, and an inverter too. I don't think there is any more drag on the motor with a higher output alternator. Therefore, bigger is better in this case, unless I'm missing something.
