Response to Cleaning and polishing bronze props |
| I use a palm or orbital sander with fine grit. It takes the corrosion right off and smooths out some of the minor pitting. I also use a long piece of belt sand paper cut in half, so I can use it like a cloth shining my shoes. Once I get it down a bit, I use black (wet) paper and a drop of soap in water, to lather up the prop and get rid of all the sanding marks. Final attention can be given with different grades of automotive compound polishing, and if you really want a shine, use some of the Flitz or similar products.
You have to be real careful not to use a sand paper that is too aggressive.
It works for me.
I know some people who use an air tool with wet sander all the way, and they can also add auto compound as they are working. The props finish up like gold.
