How funny to trip across this material on the internet. Don was my dad, so Bill the previous poster is one of my cousins. When we were growing up, we often came along on Dad's photo sessions for Chris Craft, some of which were in the Fort Lauderdale area where we lived. But I remember several summers on the St. Lawrence River up in Canada, waiting for just the right light and no unsightly competitor boats crusing by in the background. He's been gone for fifteen years, but Dad would be pleased to know that people are still appreciating his work. Indeed, Bill, Dad's boat was ugly but fast. A big open hull with a basic deck over the engine to stand on while piloting, and a bench around the sides in the back. The bow had no deck at all, but was just open down to the hull. He was always planning to finish the beast, but never had the time. Besides, once he decided that lighter was faster, he let it be. The guys with the fast, sexy water-skiing style speedboats always stared as we motored effortlessly away from them.
