Crusader, Mercruiser, et al use an essentially stock version of the GM 454. Cast pistons, single valve springs, stock internals. The marine profile cam is slightly more aggressive, but not much. The restrictive exhaust will not flow much at high rpm..neither will small flame arrestors. No trick "souped up" parts..Crusader wants those puppies to live for 2000 hours. The Ford 427's were a shorter stroke well built engine, but even they were rpm limited to 4400 or so.
