I read through the referenced links and i agree, there are some very good tips there. Excellent reference, by the way.
The one thing someone must do, if they are doing flatwork laid out on a work bench, with a roller or a brush, is to avoid putting the varnish down too thick. If your undercoat is dried rock hard, then maybe, but varnish is a solvent to varnish, and it can soften the underlayer. This is extra double important if that under layer is not fully cured.
A thick top coat onto less that fully cured varnish will result in wrinkles, and it will take forever for them to dry out so they can be sanded. Been there, done that, wasted way too much time screwing around trying to get a good job. I would have been better off stripping everything down and starting over.
