Never, ever put wet line in the locker. It turns into a middle school science experament gone bad quickly. I always leave it on the fore deck to dry. I have 7 feet of chain on the end of 230 feet of rode,(220 feet useable, the bitter end is secured inside the line locker) and I will coil it on the deck around the hatch. I have a light line (1/4 inch) that I use to secure the anchor in the pulpit roller.
On the one time I used all 220 feet of the anchor line I unshackled it from the chain and wrapped the line around the boat on the side decks using the breast and stern cleats to keep it on board. It made it two and a half laps.
I have left it out overnight, but generally on a hot summer day it will be dry in about three hours.
