Hi Paul, I would love to have parts from your genset (mag, carb, water pump, other unboltable parts, and perhaps the whole generator end). I will be of course happy to pay shipping and packing, and a bit more for your trouble.
When we got our boat our 6.5 Kohler genset engine had the head off, parts were scattered around, 4 valves were badly frozen, and cooling water was standing in the bores. I can't believe we actually got the thing going again. I am sure we are living on borrowed time with the thing, and we do use it quite often (especially in the winter to run the electric heat in the boat).
Let me know.
What you may want to get for your boat (and other general use) is a little Honda EU2000i generator. 47 pounds, the size of a large portable sewing machine, so quiet you can have a conversation standing next to it. It uses inverter technology, so at light loads it can produce 120v 60 cycle power with the engine running just above an idle (unlike normal generators which must run at a fixed higher speed to produce 60 cycle power). These generators are very popular with boaters and many others. At the blues fest I noticed about 10 boats that that these sitting near their bow pulpet and quietly running. These gennys are also great for home use to provide emergency power and such.
Here is mine, sitting at the back of my slide-in truck camper:
If you are interested, this pictures and many others are posted on a page I maintain about slide in truck campers called "Netboy's Camper Projects Page":
