Noise

Response to why?

Actually most of the noise in the Milodon setup, which is very well made as opposed to the cheaper floating idler setups, is because of the straight-cut gears- not poor quality. Same reason an M-22 Munchie whines, and the M-20 and 21 don't. Most tractor and truck engines have gear driven cams, but the gears are almost always helical cut instead of straight. The floating kind even comes in a loose-tolerance "noisy" version for the pimple-faces in the Camaros who think it makes their Chebby sound fast LOL. The upper gears of the Milodon have set, snug tolerances, and you set the lower two with a piece of newsprint, and clamp it down- nice 'n snug. Does make some noise, but it's a tight, together sound, not the crank's falling out sound of the dual idlers
