I'd agree for street, gear drives are a performance liability. The reason they're so noisy is poor gear quality. Gear drives are necessary in top fuel classes where huge spring and cylinder pressures exist. Nascar teams report a belt drive has a measurable improvement over a chain. We've produced both.
