In our business I often get to talk with guys who flew combat mission over Germany and in the South Pacific. Some flew bombers, others flew fighters. Some were Army pilots, some Navy and others were Marine pilots and/or flight crew. They often buy our models of the aircraft they flew in the war.
Once they hear of our/my interest in what they did, they often relate some exciting stories. It's great to get them started talking. I could listen forever. I now think it's too bad that I didn't find a way of recording some of these telephone conversations. They won't be around much longer. It's a real priviledge to just be here to talk with them.
I'll try to attach a low res pic emailed to us by a combat pilot of the P-51 he flew when he was based just off Iwo Jima, preparatory to the invasion of Japan. He said they all figured they would never come home from the war if they had to go in and take Japan..
