Only one name on an airplane. Sometimes, if a pilot's primary plane was down for maint, he would use another. Sometimes the previous pilot was rotated and a new pilot was assigned to the plane. This guy flew several pilot's planes besides his own. Besides fighter cover and search & destroy missions, he used to fly out over the Pacific, several hundred miles, and fly cover for downed pilotsflight crews till rescue arrived. They used to circle and wait until a B-17 (rescue plane no less!) flew out and dropped a boat (!) for the downed flight crew. Very interesting story he related.
