At least I know I am not going crazy - I knew there were those who had encountered this. Jay, I think I can make it work to get 30 degrees of rotation like you had - I will just have to work at it. Looks to me like I can clear the sensor (once I turned the nut slightly) if I file the bulge on the cap flat--there is a good 1/8" of unnecessary material. I could use the other side if I had to.
By now I am determined to make it work. Already have the new ignition wired and frankly working in this area is difficult enough with the narrow valley between the timing chain cover and front of the intake and the housing itself covering the hold-down that I would like to keep the new distributor in. Let's just say I can put the clamp, washer, and nut on in my sleep or with my eyes closed.
