best thing i use for engine longevity and keeping it clean inside is substitute a qt. of ATF in place of 1 qt of oil when ever you change your oil. lets face it, the auto trans sees far higher operating temps, and much greater working pressures than an engine ever will! the ATf has an expreme pressure package and detergent package that rivals the best additives! and it costs way less than those snake oil additives!
my 84 jeep with a straight 6 has 300,000 miles on it , and i hav`nt had the valve cover off!( not even to fix that damn leak!)been doing this in all my vehicles for 20 yrs with NO engine failures at all!

Is anyone else using Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) as an additive?

Reading this five year old message makes me wonder if there is any truth to this. Is there anyone out there who has experience in adding ATF like Lubex-50 to their engine oil? Will it harm the enginer?
Thanks.

Seems this folk lore has been around for sometime now. I am pretty sure that NO and I mean NONE oil company or auto company will ever agree this ATF added to engine oil is a good idea. I am sure that Click and Clack the auto experts would roll on the floor laughing at this one. Seems everyone wants a magic cure or a way to cheat the system. I had a guy tell me to add 1 quart of regular oil to my synthetic oil so it would not damage my engine! What a crock of bull. Who comes up with this stuff?
