Response to You Want A Sample of the Seals to Test? |
| I could theorize that zMAX, or any solvent type stuff, could attack some rubbers that may be found in oil seals/gaskets and fuel hoses. Why has this not been reported before...something like 2 years this forum's been here. But the head gasket? Which is mostly metal? I find that theory hard to make stick. Under normal operating conditions, the head gasket is never bathed in any fluid of the engine...be it gas, oil, or coolant. I assume that the zMAX you added was in the oil and gasoline, right? It could've attacked the sludge around the timing cover gasket, thereby allowing a leak to start. And I guess it could attack neoprene fule lines. Are all fuel lines neoprene? Or, it could of solvented a bunch of crap that was already existing in the fuel lines, thereby starting the chain of events you've been so lucky as to experience...goo in injectors. Sounds like you've got a mess. I hope you can restore the S/C, they're a cool car and you don't see many still on the road. I'm not trying to say your wrong, or your mechanics lying, or anything like that. I really find this intriguing...the timing of the addition of the zMAX to the failures is probably not a coincidence. Keep us informed as to what you find out as you go. It would be nice to know if there is indeed a real risk that has not been brought to light, until you did. Good luck! | |
