garbled text has been attributed to long threads or too much data on any given page. The pages are stored in a compressed form and sometimes, too much information causes these text issues.....
Try doing a search here for "garbled text". The results may help you. If I recall correctly (which is not a given), I think reducing the threads per page resolves this issue. I would try that first.
