If it's an 83, it may still have the original coil, replace it and you'll take that element out of the equation. Did you check distributor rotor? If it's not turning you won't get any spark.
If you have power at the coil and no spark, sounds like it is the coil or something that causes the coil to fire, like the timing belt, rotor, check inside that cap to see what it looks like
Ignition switch wires okay, probably if the relay clicks.
