I have an 89 Mazda 323 and there is an loud clicking noise that comes from my engine. It started about 2 weeks ago for about 3 days, and went away for about a week and a half. Problem is it came back. It increases with engine speed, and possibly resembles the sound of of a Volkswagon Bug at mid RPM. Any information is helpful! Thanks!

There are a number of possibilities, the more common is a defective or stuck valve lifter (HLA).

Silly question maybe, but how's the oil level? How many miles since your last oil change? Use correct weight as specified in owner's manual?
