I have a 1992 MX3 that recently started stuttering when I accelerate. Last night it stalled when I tried to take off from a green light and wouldn't start for 15 minutes. It then ran fine for about 25 minutes then started acting up again. Any ideas?

I had this same problem in my 1996 Mazda 626. It turned out to be my fuel pump. Apparently there are 2. I had the one repaired, it didn't work, then the 2nd one was found which was the problem... but then it started up again. I then had my "O2" sensor go out. It was replaced and worked great! Now 2 years later my engine light keeps coming on, it's my "catalitic converter(sp?)", I have been told by 3 mechanics "you don't need it"... so that hasn't been repaired yet. Now my car has been starting hard, it always starts, but sometimes it takes a little bit (I have been told, this is not because of my catalitic converter(sp?). Any thoughts on that?

I had all the same symptoms as you on my 98 626 and spent several hundred bucks at garages with no luck. At least most of it was for new timing belt and water pump which isn't a bad investment at that mileage. Anyhow I found a blog a guy had devoted to his Mazda and he recommended whan all else fails for these problems to replace the thick hose coming off the air mass flow sensor to the manifold (you can't miss it, it has three big connections and a smaller flexible hose coming off it). It cost about 20 bucks at the dealer, and when changing it I noticed my air filter had a two inch rip in it. A half hour and 30 bucks later and it runs and starts like brand new. I guess over the years this hose can get tiny cracks and/or harden so it doesn't seal, and since it is after the sensor the computer creates an innacurate fuel mixture. Good luck.
