I have a 1992 Astina hatch. After running for about 5-10 mins the engine misses a couple of times, then the engine stops (tacho reads zero) and starts again (keeping your foot on the accelerator) and then will run for the rest of the day without any more problems. Could this be some sort of choke prob.......Thanks

5-10 minutes is a rather long time, but I suppose it's possible. As you know, the purpose of the choke is to enrich the fuel mixture when the engine is cold, and then to gradually lean the mixture until normal operating temperature is reached. If the chokes stays closed, the mixture will remain over-rich. This can indeed cause stalling by flooding the engine with excess fuel. This condition is typically indicated by missing, accompanied by black exhaust smoke. Soot deposits in the exhaust pipe are another indication that the fuel mixture is overly rich. Get a can of carb and choke cleaner and spray all the moving parts to make sure they operate smoothly. Try to avoid getting it in the engine, as it can cause hard starting until it evaporates. This may or may not be the solution to the problem you're having, but it might be, and it's cheap.

I'd like to jump in and point out that the above info doesn't apply if the car has fuel injection.
